COLLEGE PARK,MD – The Maryland wrestling team defeated Columbia 22-15 on Friday night buoyed by victories from all five of the seniors honored beforehand.
The Terps (6-12, 0-8 Big Ten) won six bouts on Senior Night in front of over 400 friends and family. The victory is the team's sixth of the season, the most since a nine-win finish in the 2013-14 season.
King Sandoval got the Terps started with his ninth first period pin of the season, this one in 0:31. He immediately got No.23 Angelo Rini in a front head-lock and proceeded to whip him over for the pin. Sandoval is up to an NCAA-leading 13th pin.
Bertoni followed up the Senior Day magic with his own dominant victory over a ranked foe, his featuring a trio of takedowns. Cordio got the Terps on track heading into intermission with his own 10-8 decision victory.
Seniors Kyle Cochran, Jaron Smith, and Zach Schrader also won their matches to close out their times in The Pavilion.
