Two Terps Place on Podium at Big Ten Championships
3/6/2022 9:19:00 AM | Wrestling
Maryland finishes the weekend with two automatic qualifications to the 2022 NCAA Championships with at-large bids set to be announced March 8. Dominic Solis and Kyle Cochran each earned their bids on Saturday. It'll be the first national tournament action for both of them. The last time the Terps had two qualifiers came in 2020 when Jahi Jones and Phillip Spadafora both earned at-large bids to the eventually cancelled 2020 Wrestling Championships.
By placing sixth, Cochan is the Terps' highest individual placer since Youssif Hemida finished third-place in 2019. Solis is the first Maryland native to represent the Terps at the premier tournament since Alfred Bannister in 2017.
The Terps finish in 13th place with 15.5 team points in the tournament. The last time the Terps had a team point total that high came in the 2018 Big Ten Championships when the team finished with 30.5. Sitting in 13th place, the last time the Terps finished above 14th place in the team race also came in 2018.
