COLLEGE PARK, MD – The No. 24 Maryland baseball team returns from North Carolina, coming off of a 1-2 weekend at the LeClair Classic in Greenville. The Terps lost to the Michigan Wolverines and the East Carolina Pirates, while they defeated the Indiana State Sycamores. Maryland takes on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in a home and home series starting on Tuesday, March 8th, at 4 p.m.
 

 
The Rotation
  • Nick Dean, Ryan Ramsey, and Jason Savacool have combined to be one of the most formidable weekend rotations in the entire country. 
  • Dean has starred on Friday nights, accumulating a 0.93 ERA in three starts against Baylor, Campbell, and Michigan. 
  • Ramsey leads the team in wins with three, defeating Baylor, Campbell, and Indiana State so far this season.
  • Savacool leads the team in strikeouts with 21, while compiling a 2-1 record and a 3.27 ERA.​
Impact Starters
  • The Terps received a boost when starting centerfielder Chris "Bubba" Alleyne spurned signing with an MLB team and announcing his return to College Park for his fifth year of eligibility. This season, Alleyne is batting .267 with an OBP of .418.
  • Senior leader and All-Big Ten performer Maxwell Costes is batting .429 through the first four games of the season with five extra-base hits, including two deep home runs against the Baylor pitching staff. Costes leads the Terps in home runs with four. 
  • After a stellar freshman year where he batted .332 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs, Matt Shaw is back for the Terps. Over the weekend, Shaw terrorized the Bears, batting .538 with four runs scored, five RBIs, and two home runs. He is batting .412 through the first four games of the season.
Meet The Coaches
  • Fifth-year Head Coach Rob Vaughn signed a contract extension this past summer after the program reached its first regional since 2017. Vaughn is a career 97-82 as the coach of the Terps 
  • Matt Swope and Anthony Papio return to the bench this year for Maryland, with Papio being named assistant coach this past summer. Mike Morrison joins the staff from Coastal Carolina, where won a national championship as a player in 2016 and where he spent the last two years as Director of Player Development and Scouting of the Chanticleers, as well as interim pitching coach. Former Maryland baseball player Tommy Gardiner joins the staff as Director of Player Development after spending the last four seasons playing under Vaughn, Swope, and Papio.
Scouting The Opponent
  • The Rams are 3-7 on the season, losing four of their last five games. 
  • VCU's offense is led by outfielder Logan Amiss's .324 batting average and Tyler Locklear's four home runs. ​

  • The Terrapins and Rams have met 16 times in their program's histories, with Maryland holding a 12-4 advantage. 
  • The last meeting came in 2019, a 10-5 Terps victory led by Ben Cowles' three hits.
