Jaron Smith Earns At-Large Bid to 2022 Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland wrestling 197-pounder Jaron Smith earned an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Tuesday to bring the team's total qualifiers up to three. The three qualifiers is the most for the program since 2018.
Smith earns the bid after notching nearly 20-wins this past season, including two in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the Big Ten Championships.
Kyle Cochran and Dominic Solis earned automatic qualifications with their placement this past weekend at the Conference Championships. It'll be the first trip to nationals for all three Terps. Solis and Smith are now the first Maryland natives to represent the Terps at the NCAA Tournament since Alfred Bannister.
The most qualifiers under head coach Alex Clemsen and staff, this comes after a weekend of similar accomplishments. The Terps recorded their highest team point total and their highest team race finish since 2018 this past weekend. Cochran was the team's highest individual placer since 2019.
