COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Three members of the top-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team were named to the 25-player Tewaaraton Award nominee list, the foundation announced Thursday.
Attackman Logan Wisnauskas, faceoff specialist Luke Wierman, and defender Brett Makar were all among the 25 selected. All three Terps appeared on Tewaaraton watch lists throughout the season, but this is the first official nomination for all three.
Maryland is tied with Georgetown with three nominees for the most by any program.
Wisnauskas, now the program's all-time leading scorer, leads the Terps with 62 points on 35 goals and 27 assists this season. Averaging 5.6 points per game, Wisnauskas is a key cog in the nation's highest-scoring offense. Wisnauskas has won three Big Ten weekly honors this season and is up to 11 in his career.
Wierman, who owns the second-best faceoff rate in the nation, has been dominant at the X this season. Not only has he won 189 faceoffs on a 66.1 percent rate, but he's also snagged 94 groundballs and scored seven goals. Wierman's evolution and dominance at the faceoff has been crucial to the team's undefeated run.
Makar, the team's leader on defense, has continued his evolution as one of the best long-poles in the nation. Makar has picked-up 20 groundballs and caused eight turnovers in eleven games this season while holding foes to only 9.8 goals per game.
Maryland has won two of the previous four Tewaaraton awards with Jared Bernhardt taking it home in 2021 and Matt Rambo in 2017.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. The five men's and five women's finalists will be announced in early May and will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 2.
