COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland lacrosse star Jared Bernhardt signed as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday evening.
Bernhardt, who retired as the program's all-time leader in points and goals, finished his career at Division-II Ferris State where he led the Bulldogs to an undefeated National Championship. The 2021 Tewaaraton Award Winner, given to the top player in college lacrosse, was Bernhardt's after an incredible 71 goal, 28 assist, 99 point season on the way to the NCAA Finals.
Bernhardt's laundry list of accomplishments include the 2021 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, his four All-America honors, and three All-Big Ten honors. He still holds the all-time Maryland record for goals with 202 as well as the program record for goals (18) and points (24) in an NCAA Tournament run.
His older brothers, Jake and Jesse, both also played at Maryland and went on to play in the Professional Lacrosse League (PLL). Jesse has been an assistant coach in College Park since 2017.
Bernhardt joins a pair of Terps drafted over the weekend, Nick Cross and Chigoziem Okonkwo, as well as Sam Okuayinonu and Tayon Fleet-Davis who signed as a UDFA.
