COLLEGE PARK, MD -- After a scoreless regulation, the Terps capitalized on a penalty corner as
Leah Crouse scored the lone goal of the game to lift the No. 3 Terps to a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 8 Michigan. She scored 3:39 into the extra session to move the Terps to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines are now 4-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
In front of a great home crowd and the Maryland band, both defenses shined all game and needed extra time to decide the outcome. Danielle Van Rootselaar got a great look off the penalty corner that was blocked, but Crouse stayed with the play and turned the deflected shot into the game-winning goal.
Maryland held the Wolverines without a penalty corner all game. This was the first time the Terps accomplished that feat this season, besting their previous opponent penalty corner low of two. In contrast, Maryland earned eight penalty corners, including the one that resulted in their game-winning goal.
The Terps out-shot the Wolverines 13-6 and claimed their fifth victory over a ranked opponent this season.
Coach Missy Meharg's Take
"What I'm so impressed with is the players and their IQ. They're very coachable, they followed the game plan. We've been able to shift presses at halftime pretty consistently. I felt the game was in our hands the whole time and it was."
"That (final play) was really set up for Leah to read it. She could've taken it herself and shot or read the situation. Leah did a really good job, obviously."
Player's Perspective
"I think (a penalty corner) just finally went our way," Crouse of her goal. "We've been working really hard just practicing different variations, different set-ups. I think it just clicked."

- Crouse's goal came with 6:21 remaining in the first overtime period.
Kieft Coming Up Clutch
