LYNCHBURG, VA- The University of Maryland women's tennis team finished their fifth and final day of competition at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships.
"This regional tournament was a really good showing overall for the Terps," said Associate Head Coach
Ruth Seaborne. "To have two players in the singles semifinals and two doubles teams in the quarterfinals is a testament to the hard work the team has been doing in College Park."
Selma Cadar defeated Hibah Shaikh to win the singles championship.
"We're beyond happy for Selma to win the singles title, her consistency in intensity and intention at practice has been incredible these past three years and it's great to see it pay off," said Head Coach
Katie Dougherty.
Kallista Liu's strong tournament run ended in the singles semi-finals.
"Kallista had a great tournament and is playing the best tennis of her career," said Coach Dougherty.
Mary Brumfield and
Selma Cadar were doubles regional finalists for the second year in a row but were defeated by a talented UVA doubles team.
"They had a rough run at All-Americans and we are glad they were able to turn it around and have a great performance this week," said Coach Seaborne.
Cadar has clinched a spot for singles and Brumfield/ Cadar has also clinched a spot in the ITA Fall National Championships.
"For Mary and Selma to make back-to-back Fall Nationals is an impressive accomplishment and the best is ahead for them," said Coach Dougherty. "I'm happy with where we're at as a team at this point in the season and we'll get back to work tomorrow to finish the fall out the right way."
The ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego will begin Nov. 1
