COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland officially opens its 105th season of play on Tuesday night as the Terps host Mount St. Mary's at the XFINITY Center. The game will tip at 7 PM and will be streamed online through Big Ten Plus (B1G+). Fans can also listen to the game on the Maryland Sports Radio Network with Voice of the Terps Johnny Holliday calling the action alongside Chris Knoche and Walt Williams. The Terps are looking to extend their win streak in home openers (46) dating back to the 1977-78 season during the Lefty Driesell era - the third-longest such streak nationally. This is just the third time that Maryland has opened its season against the Mountaineers after having done so on Nov. 23, 1991 (W, 83-53) and Nov. 13, 2015 (W, 80-56). In terms of season-openers, Maryland has won nine consecutive with its last loss to start a new year coming on Nov. 8, 2013 against No. 18 Connecticut at the Barclays Center in New York.
Home Sweet Home
- Maryland's 46 game win streak in home openers is the third-longest active streak nationally. The streak began during the 1977 season with the Terps tied alongside Michigan State.
- The last time Maryland lost a home opener was on Nov. 27, 1976 to Notre Dame, 80-79, in overtime.
- Prior to the Notre Dame loss, the Terps had won eight consecutive home openers dating back to 1968-69. Since 1963-64, Maryland has won 58-of-60.
- Maryland has won a program-record 13 consecutive Big Ten conference games at XFINITY, including all 10 games last season and the final three of 2021-22. The Terps previous record of nine consecutive home Big Ten wins was in 2014-15. The Terps were 16-1 at home overall last season with the lone loss coming to UCLA.
- Maryland's 13-game home conference win streak is its longest since winning 16 consecutive ACC games from the 2000-01 through 2002-03 seasons.
- Maryland's 10-0 home conference game record marked just the second time for that to occur in Big Ten history - Purdue was 10-0 during the 2018-19 season.
- Maryland's 16-1 home record was the best since 2019-20 and the eighth time overall to win 16-or-more at home. In both 2012-13 and 2014-15, the Terps won 18 games at home going 18-3 and 18-1, respectively.
- Maryland's 13-game home win streak for league games, highlighted by the 10-0 record last season in Big Ten play, is the longest active streak in the conference and 7th nationally.
Maryland's 46-game home-opening win streak is the third longest active streak nationally.
Preseason Honors Stacking Up For YOung
- After a standout season in 2022-23, Jahmir Young, one of the top point guards in the country, has racked up the preseason accolades, He was named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List becoming the first since Anthony Cowan, Jr., in 2019. He is looking to become the first player since Greivis Vasquez in 2010 to win the honor. Young was also a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, the first unanimous pick for Maryland since Cowan in 2019.
- Additionally, Young picked up Preseason All-America honors from Blue Ribbon and Lindy's, while The Field of 68 had him on the All-Big Ten Preseason Team and ranked him as the No. 35 of 100 top players nationally entering 2023-24.
- Last season, Young was a second team All-Big Ten selection, was named to the USBWA All-District Team, and selected to the NABC All-District Second Team. Additionally, he was chosen as the Pigskin Club of Washington Collegiate Player of the Year.
Jahmir Young is a member of the Bob Cousy Watch List and was a unanimous pick to the preseason All-B1G Team.
JuJu Beast
- After a breakout sophomore campaign that saw Julian Reese become one of the top big men in the Big Ten, the Baltimore native enters 2023-24 with high praise. Reese joined Jahmir Young on the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and was named to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List.
- Reese showed his impact for the Terps in 2022-23 as he scored in double-figures in 22 games with a career-high 24 points against Coppin State. He had seven double-doubles on the year including 17 points, 12 rebounds at Ohio State.
- Had one of his best league outings going toe-to-toe with Purdue's Big Ten Player of the Year Zach Edey where Reese scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting while adding three rebounds and committing zero turnovers.
- Reese finished 2022-23 tied for second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points and led the Terps in rebounds (7.2).
- In two NCAA Tournament games last year, Reese averaged 15.5 points against West Virginia and No. 1 Alabama.
- His 63.2 field goal percentage last season stands as the third-best mark in Maryland program history for a single season.

Don't Sleep On Donta
- Donta Scott became the 59th player in program history to reach 1,000 points last season. He enters the 2023-24 season with 1,320 points and 704 rebounds. He is also the 17th Terp to post 1,300 points and 600 rebounds in a career.
- Darryl Morsell (1,090 points / 510 rebounds / 2018-21) and Anthony Cowan (1,881 points / 508 rebounds / 2017-20) were the most recent Terps to post 1,000/500.
- Scott is now 28th all-time in scoring and needs 35 points to move past Tony Massenburg (1354, 1985-90) for 27th. He needs 12 more boards to pass Albert King (715, 1977-81) for No. 14 all-time.
- Additionally, thanks to his fifth season, Scott (129 GP, 114 GS, 3779 MIN.) will have a chance to set Maryland's games played record (141, Jake Layman, 2012-16), the games started record (136, Steve Blake, 1999-03), and minutes played record (4568, Greivis Vasquez, 2006-10).
Donta Scott continues to climb the all-time record lists for the Terps.
