COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland baseball shortstop
Matt Shaw has been named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist list, the organization announced Monday. The selection marks two straight seasons with a representative on the list for Maryland baseball, as 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year Chris "Bubba" Alleyne was named a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist last season.
One of the most explosive hitters in the nation, Matt Shaw, is in the midst of a truly elite season at the plate. Shaw leads the Big Ten with 23 home runs while sitting top-15 nationally in hits (84), RBI (66), and runs (74). The Brimfield, Massachusetts native has left his mark on Maryland history, setting the program record in career home runs and RBI while remaining on pace to become the second straight Maryland player to record a season with 20-plus home runs and 20-plus stolen bases. A 2022 All-Big Ten First Team selection and ranked the No. 1 shortstop in the nation by D1Baseball, Shaw is poised to leave the Terrapins as one of the greatest players in program history.
Shaw is one of 25 semifinalists for the 2023 Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the nation. Fans can vote for their favorite players on
