COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland men's lacrosse student-athletes
Brett Makar and
Kyle Long were both selected by the Atlas Lacrosse Club in the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League Draft on Tuesday night. Makar went third overall.
Maryland now has 72 total hardshell PLL draftees, the most of any school.
Makar was the first Terp off the board, going third overall to the Atlas Lacrosse Club. He will be the lone Terp on the current roster. A five-year starter at close defense and the current leader of the Maryland Terrapin defense, the graduate student from Yorktown Heights, NY has racked up 162 groundballs and 57 caused turnovers throughout his tenure as a Terp. Makar is the two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and has been named an All-American by multiple different outlets in the past three seasons.
The Atlas took their second Terp of the night when they drafted Long in the fourth round with the 27th overall pick. Long has been a key asset of the Maryland offense for five seasons. Hailing from Springfield, PA, Long has totaled 145 points over five seasons, including 23 postseason points, the most on the team. His 91 career assists rank tied for 13th all-time at Maryland and the most of any Maryland midfielder.
The fourth-seeded Terps kick off NCAA Tournament action on Saturday, May 13 when they host Army at 7:30 pm at SECU Stadium. The game will air on ESPNU.
