COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland volleyball team announced the annual Red-White Scrimmage will take place on Saturday, August 19 at 3:30 PM in the XFINITY Center Pavilion. Admission to the event is free for all spectators.
The Red-White Scrimmage will be the public's first look at the 2023 Maryland volleyball team, which is coming off a 16-16 season in 2022. Entering the season, the Terps are picked to finish ninth in the Big Ten, the team's highest preseason ranking under sixth-year head coach
Adam Hughes, as the team prepares to put together three consecutive seasons with a .500 record or better for the first time since 2003-05.
For the upcoming season, Maryland returns 84.5% (1,151 of 1,361) of its kills, with the squad's top three players in that category —
Sam Csire,
Laila Ivey and
Anastasia Russ — hoping to build on last year's efforts. Additionally, Russ comes back for her redshirt senior season with 182 blocks last season, most in the NCAA during the regular season, and
Sydney Dowler arrives in College Park for her fourth season after recording a team-best 1,012 assists.
Fans will also get a first look at Maryland's incoming freshman class, composed of four talented newcomers from coast to coast. Outside hitter
Sydney Bryant, middle blocker
Eva Rohrbach and liberos
Alex McGillivray and
Jonna Spohn will suit up in preparation for their first fall season with the Terrapins.
Maryland will open its regular season on Friday, August 25 against FIU at the Canes Classic in Coral Gables, FL, and will play its first regular-season contest at the XFINITY Center Pavilion against Coastal Carolina on Friday, September 8.
Single-match tickets and
2023 Pride Passes are now available for purchase.
