MINNEAPOLIS – Maryland volleyball was defeated by No. 14 Minnesota, 3-0 (21-25, 15-25, 18-25) on Saturday at Maturi Pavilion. The Terps, who are 10-7 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten, wrap up their two-game road trip.

Maryland put up a fight in set one, as both teams were tied at 15 apiece before Minnesota pulled ahead late with a valiant blocking effort. Samantha Schnitta tallied six kills in the set alone. The same transpired in the third set as the Terps were tied at 14, but the Gophers sparked a timely 7-1 run later to close out the set.

Schnitta finished the match with 13 kills, five digs and one ace. She now has 53 service aces on the season, leading the NCAA.

Sydney Dowler led Maryland with 25 assists, and Lilly Gunter recorded a team-high 11 dig. Dowler added five kills and five digs. Sam Csire (nine kills and four aces) and Anastasia Russ (four kills and one block) were other standout performers.

The Gophers improved to 11-5 and 4-2 in conference action.

Breaking Down The Action

Set 1: Minnesota 25 - Maryland 21

Minnesota opened the first set leading 4-2 with three kills and an attack error by Maryland.
The Terps scored three consecutive points, highlighted by a kill by Sam Csire to trail 7-6.
Maryland took the lead at 9-8 after back-to-back kills by Samantha Schnitta and Csire.
Both teams traded six consecutive points, but Minnesota earned a 15-14 advantage heading into the TV timeout. Until then, there had been nine ties and four lead changes.

The Terps lost 21-25 after a hard fight, only losing by four points.

Set 2: Minnesota 25 - Maryland 15

A big block at the net by Anastasia Russ tied the score 1-1.
Schnitta recorded a kill and a sideout for the Terps. Minnesota led 9-3.
Csire swings high and tools the block for a much-needed kill. The Terps trail 10-16.
After a slow start and Minnesota's domineering block, Maryland lost 25-15.

Set 3: Minnesota 25 - Maryland 18

Russ recorded another kill out of the middle to start set one 1-1.
Sydney Dowler with a setter dump to put the Terps up 6-4.
Eva Rohrbach with a well-timed block on an overpass, kept Maryland's lead at 12-10.
Csire with another high hands kill to tool the block at 17-18.
Maryland lost set three 25-18 after a huge block from the Gophers.
