COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 7 Maryland is set to travel to Pennsylvania for the season finale against No. 17 Penn State. Penn State will host the Terrapins in Happy Valley for both teams' regular-season finale on Friday, November 1st at 4:00 p.m.

  • No. 7 Maryland is coming off a 1-1 weekend.  The Terps narrowly lost to No. 13 Princeton 2-1 on Friday but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Richmond on Sunday. 
  • The Terps' offense has been fueled by seniors Hope Rose and team captain Kylee Niswonger. Rose leads the team with 19 points and nine goals this season, scoring a goal in three games in a row. Niswonger has contributed four goals in 13 games, including her first career hat trick against Lock Haven.  
  • On the defensive side, preseason Big Ten Player to Watch Josie Hollamon has played a key role, adding five goals this season and tying for the team lead with five assists.  
  • In goal, sophomore Alyssa Klebasko has been dominant, ranking third in the Big Ten and fifth nationally in goals-against-average (0.89). She also ranks third in the conference with five shutouts this season.
  • The Nittany Lions, standing at 8-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play, are coming off a narrow 1-0 loss to Rutgers in Piscataway. 
  • Leading Penn State is 2024 USA Olympian Sophia Gladieux. Gladieux leads the team with 42 points from 19 goals and four assists. Van Bekkum follows with 11 points, scoring three goals and delivering a team-high five assists, while Jennes has tallied six points with two goals and two assists. 
  • Gladieux leads the Big Ten in goals and ranks second in total points. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Aby Deverka has 68 saves on the season, while senior Lauren Delgado holds a 4-0 record with nine saves.
  • On October 14, Gladieux set a new Penn State record for career points in a 5-0 victory over Ohio University. Her two goals in that game brought her to 200 career points from 93 goals and 14 assists, surpassing Candy Finn's record of 196 points set from 1978-81.
  • This season, Penn State ranks second in the Big Ten in saves per game and third in defensive saves. Gladieux holds the top spot in the conference and ranks second nationally in goals per game.
  • Maryland is 19-28-1 all-time against Penn State. The Terps defeated the Nittany Lions 4-2 last season in College Park.

  • On Friday, Maryland field hockey lost in a tightly contested defensive battle, 2-1, to No. 13 Princeton. Despite a Hope Rose equalizer after Princeton took a 1-0 lead, the Tigers scored on a penalty strike late in the third quarter to put the game just out of reach for the Terps offense.

  • Rose's third-quarter score was her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Emma DeBerdine and Fleur Knopert assisted the goal. DeBerdine leads the Terps with five assists in 2024. 

  • Beth Yeager scored both of Princeton's goals in the contest. Yeager leads the Ivy League in goals and assists. She played alongside DeBerdine on the United States women's national field hockey team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  • On Sunday, No. 6 Maryland took down Richmond, 3-0, at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. 
  • After threatening with a pair of shot attempts, Fleur Knopert scored her fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner in the first quarter. Ella Gaitan delivered her second assist of the year.
  • Gaitan scored a goal of her own in the second quarter, her seventh goal of the season. Josie Hollamon earned her fifth assist of the year, which is tied with Emma DeBerdine for the team lead. 
  • Hope Rose added an insurance goal in the closing minutes of the game for her team-leading ninth goal of the season. She has scored in three consecutive games. 
  • The Terps dominated on both ends of the ball, leading the Spiders in shots (20-1), shots on goal (13-1) and penalty corners (4-1). Maryland's unyielding pressure prevented Richmond from taking any shots after the first minute of the game. 
  • Earning her first start of the season as a goalkeeper, Paige Kieft made one save. She was well-supported by the Terps' fullbacks Rayne Wright, Ericka Morris-Adams and Josie Hollamon.

On Sunday, Maryland honored seven graduating seniors and graduates on Senior Day against Richmond.
Rose on the field
  • Senior Hope Rose has been a tremendous asset to the Maryland Field Hockey team throughout her four years.
  • A three-time NFHCA All-American, Rose earned All-Big Ten First Team honors last season. Heading into her senior year, she was named one of the Big Ten's 2024 Players to Watch.
  • This past summer, Rose captained the USA U-21 Women's National Team in the Junior Pan American Championships, helping lead the team to a silver medal. 
  • Last week, she celebrated a milestone 100th career point in Maryland's 4-1 victory over American. Over the last eight games, Rose has scored in six, showcasing her consistency and skill. From the moment she arrived on campus, Rose's impact was undeniable. 
  • She scored 10 goals with four assists as a freshman, earning her the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award in 2021.

  • Sophomore Alyssa Klebasko is continuing her dominance in the cage coming off of a stellar freshman year.
  • The 2023 Big Ten All-Second Team goalie is currently ranking third in the Big Ten and fifth in the country in goals-against-average (0.89). She also ranks sixth in the conference in save percentage this season.  
  • Through 15 games, Klebasko has 34 saves and five shutouts.

  • According to FieldHockeyCorner.com, Maryland was ranked as having the third toughest schedule in Division 1. 
  • The Terps have faced off against seven opponents ranked in the top 10 and have won three of those games with the four losses each coming from only one goal.
