Opening Streaks
  • Maryland holds a 47 game win streak for home openers which ranks third nationally. The streak began with the 1977 season. The last time Maryland lost a home opener was on Nov. 27, 1976.
  • The Terps are 312-75 (.806) all-time in XFINITY Center including 27-7 (.794) under Kevin Willard. Maryland has won nine straight home non-conference games and 15 consecutive against un-ranked non-conference foes.
  • Maryland's 47 game win streak in home openers is the third-longest active streak nationally. The streak began during the 1977 season with the Terps tied alongside Michigan State which lost its home opener last year.
  • The last time Maryland lost a home opener was on Nov. 27, 1976 to Notre Dame, 80-79, in overtime.
  • Prior to the Notre Dame loss, the Terps had won eight consecutive home openers dating back to 1968-69. Since 1963-64, Maryland has won 59-of-61.

New Season, New Faces
  • Maryland looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2023-24 campaign. In the offseason, Willard and staff revamped the roster with several key transfers and two talented freshmen. Derik Queen enters as the second-highest ranked recruit in program history. On the transfer side, Ja'Kobi Gillespie, Selton Miguel, and Rodney Rice add instant scoring and consistent shooting from deep.
  • Julian Reese anchors the program as he comes back for his fourth season in College Park. Regarded as one of the top front court players in the conference, Reese reached 1,000 career points last season and could hit 1,000 rebounds for his career this year.
  • Along with Reese, the development of DeShawn Harris-Smith, one of the top Power 5 true freshmen last year, and Jordan Geronimo provide key experience for the Terps. The return from injury of Chance Stephens adds another perimeter threat, while transfers Tafara Gapare and Jay Young provide athletic depth and dynamic defense to the line-up.

  • Julian Reese enters the 2024-25 campaign as one of the top post players in the Big Ten and nationally. Last season, he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors as a junior after being named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List.
  • Reese posted 15 double doubles last season which were the ninth most nationally and stood second in the Big Ten during the regular season.
  • Reese has 22 total double-doubles entering 2024-25.
  • Dating back to 2010-11, Reese has the fourth-most double doubles for any Terp.

DeShawn Looking To Build OFf Freshman Year
  • DeShawn Harris-Smith played in every game for Maryland last year as a true freshman with 30 starts. He was the program's top rookie scorer since the trio of Jalen Smith (11.7 ppg), Eric Ayala (8.6), and Aaron Wiggins (8.3) in 2018-19.
  • Against Iowa, Harris-Smith became the second Maryland freshman in the last 15 years to record 15+ points and 5+ rebounds off the bench while shooting 70.0 percent or better from the field (Diamond Stone vs. Marshall in 2015-16).
  • Harris-Smith played at least 20 minutes in all 33 games, tied for the second-longest streak by a Division I freshman this season (Drake's Kevin Overton – 33).
