
Schnitta Named All-Big Ten Second Team, Watson Sportsmanship Honoree

COLLEGE PARK, MD - After a career season, graduate pin hitter Samantha Schnitta has been named All-Big Ten Second Team as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
Schnitta finished the season leading the nation in service aces with 88. She averaged .79 aces per set, ranking first in the NCAA for ten consecutive weeks. Schnitta broke Maryland's single-season aces record, previously held by Lynnsy Jones ('03). She had eight matches with at least five aces, including two with a career-best seven.
In addition to her serving success, the Overland Park, Kansas native added 368 kills, 216 digs, 34 assists and 61 blocks - all season-highs. Schnitta set career-bests in nearly every statistical category this season, including kills (22), assists (5), aces (7) and total blocks (8). In her final weekend of collegiate volleyball, Schnitta entered the 1,000 career kill club.
Senior middle blocker Ellie Watson was also recognized on Wednesday as a Sportsmanship Honoree. Watson appeared in eight matches this season and set a career-best eight kills against Northwestern. She closes out her time in a Maryland uniform with 21 kills, and 15 blocks.
