COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Eric Spanos and
Luke Wierman were named the Big Ten Offensive Player and Specialist of the Week, respectively. The No. 3 Terps are coming off a 13-7 win over then-No. 11 Princeton on Saturday afternoon.
Spanos scored a career-high four goals to lead the Terps past No. 11 Princeton, 13-7. He also notched an assist to give him a career-best five points. Spanos scored two of the first three goals of the game to get the Terps off to a fast start in the win.
Wierman went a remarkable 20-of-23 from the face-off X, for a career-best 87% in No. 4 Maryland's 13-7 win over No. 11 Princeton on Saturday. The 20 wins officially made him the first Terp to ever surpass 700 face-off wins. He has now won 20 or more face-offs in a game nine times in his career. Wierman also scooped a career-high tying 13 groundballs.
Spanos wins his first-ever Big Ten Weekly honor. Wierman earns his second this season and seventh of his career. Four different Terps have now won a conference honor this month. Wierman was also named to the USILA Team of the Week for the second time this season.
The Terps are back in action Sunday, March 3 when they travel to South Bend, IN to face No. 6 Notre Dame. The game will face off at noon and will air on ESPNU.
