Hensh’s Hat Trick Fuels No. 9 Terps In 10-8 Win Over No. 10 Denver

Box Score DENVER – Victoria Hensh recorded the fourth hat trick of her career as No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse took down No. 10 Denver, 10-8, on Saturday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. 

Maryland (4-1) had seven players score at least one goal in the commanding victory, but Hensh led the way with her performance. She added one assist to tie her career-high of four points.    

Maggie Weisman was the other Terp to score multiple goals. She did so for the second time in her career and twice in the last three games.  

  Eloise Clevenger (one goal and one assist), Libby May (one goal and one assist), Shannon Smith (one goal and one assist) and Chrissy Thomas (two assists) all scored multiple points. It was Thomas' second career game with multiple assists. 
  Goalie Emily Sterling saved 10 shots as the leader of the defense. She needs just six saves to claim the fourth spot on Maryland's all-time career saves list. 
  Shaylan Ahearn and Meghan Ball took turns on draws and combined for 12 wins. 

Denver (3-2) led for under two minutes after scoring the first goal of the game. However, the Terps never let the Pioneers tie the game up. Julia Gilbert scored four goals to lead Denver's offense.  

Breaking Down The Action
  • Denver scored first less than two minutes into the game, but Maryland responded with three unanswered goals from Victoria Hensh, Hannah Leubecker and Libby May. Each team traded goals at 5:53 and 1:24. Hensh scored for the Terps as they led 4-2 entering the second quarter. 
  • Kori Edmondson scored a man-up goal off an assist from Eloise Clevenger in the first minute of the second stanza. Shannon Smith got into the scoring column and Clevenger scored with two seconds on the clock to take a 7-5 lead at halftime. Denver matched Maryland's three goals in the quarter and scored twice in less than 10 seconds before Clevenger's goal.
  • Denver scored the first goal of the third period, but Maryland strung together three straight goals with two from Maggie Weisman and one from Hensh. The goal by Hensh gave her a hat trick. The Pioneers added a free position goal in the final seconds, but Maryland headed into the final quarter of action with a commanding 10-7 lead.   
  • Denver scored once at 10:42, but Maryland held them scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure the win.   
Hat Trick Terps 
  • Victoria Hensh notched a hat trick with three goals to go along with one assist. It was the fourth hat trick of her career.
  • Maryland has had a player score three goals in a game this season five times. Eloise Clevenger, Hannah Leubecker and Kori Edmondson were the other three players. Clevenger did it twice.  
Multi Terps Update
  • Victoria Hensh (three goals and one assist) tallied the 11th multi-point scoring game of her career and the ninth with multiple goals.
  • Maggie Weisman (two goals) notched the second multi-point and multi-goal scoring game of her career.  
  • Eloise Clevenger (one goal and one assist) had the 38th multi-point game of her career.
  • Libby May (one goal and one assist) recorded the 56th multi-point game of her career. 
  • Shannon Smith (one goal and one assist) had her 20th multi-point game.
  • Chrissy Thomas (two assists) had her 13th multi-point game of her career. It was her second career game with multiple assists. 
Terps On The Charts 
  • Shaylan Ahearn is third in program history with 346 draw control wins. She added to her total with seven on Saturday. Next on the list is Kali Hartshorn (2017-20), who had 421 in her career. 
  • Emily Sterling is fifth in career saves after her 10 in the game. She now has 545 in her career and is also only six from passing Kim Chorosiewski (1985-88). 
  • Eloise Clevenger is ninth on the all-time assists list. She had one in the game and has 99 in her career. She's just four away from passing Kelly Kasper (2005-08) and claiming the eighth spot. 
  • Libby May and Hannah Leubecker are No. 12 and 14 respectively on the career goals list. May has 175 and Leubecker has 171. May tied Zoe Stukenberg (2014-17).
