Maryland (18-6) at Georgetown (16-7)
March 25, 2024
Capital One Park
4:00 p.m.

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- After four straight games at home, the Terrapins head back on the road as they face Georgetown on March 26. This is the second of three match-ups between the Terps and the Hoyas, with the Terps coming out on top in their last game 14-5 back on Feb. 27. The Terps enter the midweek meeting having won eight of their last 10 games. First pitch between the Terps and the Hoyas is set for 4 p.m. and will air on the Maryland Baseball Network.

Maryland (18-6) took two of three over the weekend against Michigan State as they opened Big Ten play. Both wins for the Terrapins came in extra innings, as Brayden Martin had walk-off singles on Friday and Sunday. The Terps led for most of the game on Friday, but the Spartans would tie it in the ninth and send the game into extra innings. After Michigan State took the lead in the top of the tenth, the Terps loaded the bases with one out for Martin. Martin ripped the second pitch he saw into right field, scoring two and giving the Terps the win in game one. After dropping game two of the series, Maryland fell behind early 4-1 in game three. The Terps offense showed up late, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie it. Martin came up in the bottom of the tenth once again, this time with runners on first and second. The freshman launched a 2-1 pitch over the head of the left fielder to walk it off for the second time and secure the 23rd consecutive series win for the Terps.

The Terps and the Hoyas have met 86 times, with the Terps holding the advantage with a 63-23 record. These two teams last met earlier this season, with the Terps winning 14-5. The Terps scored seven runs in the first inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Georgetowm (16-7) is coming off a sweep of Ohio State on the road, outsourcing the Buckeyes by a 17-8 margin. The Hoyas opened the weekend with a 5-1, before a comeback 8-5 win on Saturday. A five-run fifth inning for Georgetown put them ahead before adding two more runs late in the game. Georgetown closed out the weekend with a 4-2 win over Ohio State in extra innings. Georgetown scored a ninth to tie the game and then got a two-run double in the tenth to secure the series sweep. On offense, Georgetown is led by Christian Ficca, leads the team in batting average (.402), home runs (seven), and RBI (37). On the mound Andrew Citron leads the pitching staff with a 1.15 ERA, while Marcello Matroianni leads the team with four wins on the season.

  • The two biggest hits for Martin came in Maryland's wins against Michigan State, with the Bowie, Md. native hitting walk-off singles in both games. Including his walk-off single in the series finale, Martin also drove in the tying run that allowed the game to go to extra innings.
  • This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Terrapins have had a freshman win freshman of the week, with Kyle McCoy receiving the honor twice during the 2023 season.

You Only Need One
  • A team with a penchant for the dramatic, the Terrapins currently hold a 7-1 record this season in one-run games.
  • Thanks to a pair of walk-offs over the weekend, the Terps added to their winning record in one-run games. This marked the second weekend in a row where both of the team's wins were by one run, with them taking two games over Portland in their last series 9-8 on March 16 and 7-6 on March 17.
  • The Terps have already equaled their win total in one-run games from last season, with them holding a record of 7-4 on such occasions in 2023.

Series Win Streak
  • With its series win over Michigan State this past weekend, Maryland extended its streak to 23 consecutive Big Ten series wins. The Terps have won all eight of their Big Ten series in back-to-back seasons and have not lost a conference set since April 2021.
  • The Terps have not lost a regular season Big Ten series series since April 9-11, 2021, when the Terps dropped 2-of-3 at Nebraska. The Terps last split of a Big Ten series was at Iowa back on April 23-24, which is the lone series in its run that didn't result in a series victory.
  • With the Terps winning taking two from Michigan State over the weekend, they have also now won 16 consecutive weekend series. The last weekend series loss for the Terps came last season during a road series against Ole Miss from Feb. 24-26.
