No. 7 Maryland Rallies For Third OT Win This Season, Beating Brown, 14-13

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 7 Maryland men's lacrosse rallied for a 14-13 overtime win over Brown on Saturday at SECU Stadium. Daniel Maltz tallied the game dramatic game-winning goal in overtime. The Terps are now 3-0 in overtime this season, also winning at Richmond and Syracuse. Maltz finished with four goals in the win. 
  Sophomore Braden Erksa scored all five of his career-high five goals in the second half and set another career-best with eight points in the win. 
  Maryland (5-1) captured its first lead of the game on a goal by Erksa at 10:07 in the fourth quarter. It was his third goal of the game to give him a hat trick. He added another goal minutes later as the Terps scored five straight goals in a row to take a 12-10 lead with 8:03 left in the game. 
  Brown (0-5) tied the game at 12-12 with 2:41 left before Erksa scored his fifth of the game to regain the lead with 2:07 left in the game at 13-12. Brown answered with 45 seconds left in regulation, setting the stage for Maltz's overtime game-winner with 42 seconds elapsed in overtime. 

Jack Koras and Ryan Siracusa each netted two goals. The other goal was scored by Owen Murphy
  Goalie Logan McNaney secured the fifth spot on Maryland's all-time saves list. He made 10 saves, including several crucial ones down the stretch, to pass Brian Phipps (2007-2010) with 473. McNaney (474 career saves) is on his way to becoming just the fourth Terp ever to reach 500 career saves. 

Shea Keethler won a career-best 12 face-offs and picked up a career-high eight groundballs to lead the Terps in both categories. 

Maryland improved to a perfect 17-0 against Brown. This was the first time the schools met since the Terps won a 15-14 Final Four battle in overtime in 2016. The last time they played in College Park was in 1978.
  Breaking Down The Action
  • Brown scored the game's first two goals, but Maryland answered with a goal by Jack Koras at 8:08 off a feed from Eric Spanos. Owen Murphy netted another goal just over a minute later to tie the game at 2-2. Each team scored two more goals to end the first in a 4-4 tie. Daniel Maltz scored twice in the final 1:36 for the Terps.
  • Brown entered halftime with an 8-6 advantage.  
  • Brown scored twice yet again in the opening minutes of the third quarter. Sandwiched in-between was a goal by Braden Erksa.   
  • Siracusa tied the game at 10 with 12:35 left in regulation for the first tie since 4-4 at halftime. Erksa's third of the day gave the Terps their first lead of the game at 11-10 with 10:07 left in the fourth. He added another two minutes later to grab a two-score lead. 
  • Brown responded with two goals to tie the game, but Erksa scored his fifth of the day at 2:07 to regain the lead at 13-12. The Bears then tied the game with 45 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. 
  • Maltz scored the game-winning goal in overtime for the walk-off win.   
Hat Trick Terps
  • Daniel Maltz posted a hat trick with four goals on Saturday. It was the 17th hat trick of his career and second of the season. His last came against Princeton on Feb. 24.
  • Braden Erksa joined the hat trick party for his third of the season in the fourth quarter. He finished with five goals. 
  • Maryland has recorded a hat trick in 77 of its last 79 games dating to Feb. 2, 2019. This includes a remarkable streak of 67 straight games with a hat trick through the late 2023 season. 
  • The other hat tricks this season have come from Jack Koras, Eric Spanos, and Eric Malever
Multi Terps Update
  • Braden Erksa (five goals and three assists) had his 18th multi-point game in his two years as a Terp. It was his 12th career game with multiple goals. He scored a career-high seven points. 
  • Daniel Maltz (four goals) had the 40th multi-point game of his career and the 28th multi-goal game of his career. 
  • Jack Koras (two goals and one assist) recorded his 17th multi-point game of his career. It was also his 12th game scoring multiple goals.
  • Ryan Siracusa (two goals and one assist) recorded the sixth multi-point game of his career.  It was his second career game with multiple goals.  
  • Owen Murphy (one goal and one assist) claimed his 25th multi-point game of his career.
  • Eric Malever (two assists) had the 21st multi-point game and the 14th multi-assist game of his career. 
Terps In The Record Books
  • Logan McNaney secured the fifth spot on the all-time saves list. With 10 in the game, he now has 474 for his career. He passed Brian Phipps (2007-2010) and is just 26 saves away from becoming the fourth Terp ever to reach 500 career saves. 
  • Daniel Maltz scored four goals to increase his career total to 104. He sits at No. 15 on the all-time list. He passed Ed Mullen (1972-76), Anthony DeMaio (2018-22) and Bill PePettit (1962-64) in the game.
  • Ajax Zappitello is 14th on the all-time caused turnovers list with one on Saturday. He's just two from passing Brett Makar (2019-23) with 59.
Get To 10 And Win
  • Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 156 of the 176 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals. The Terps have scored 10 or more goals in five of six games this season. 
  • Most recently, the Terps scored 13 goals against No. 11 Princeton in a 13-7 win. Eric Spanos scored a career-high four goals while Daniel Maltz notched his first hat trick of the season.
  • Maryland is also 117-17 since 2015 when scoring at least 10 goals.
Dominating The Series 
  • The Terps are 17-0 against Brown all-time, with just one of those games coming in the 21st century. This was the first time the two sides had played each other in the regular season since 1995.
  • The last time the two sides met was in the 2016 Final Four when the Terps won an overtime thriller in Philadelphia as Colin Heacock scored off an assist in overtime to send Maryland to the NCAA Championship.
  • The last regular season meeting occurred in 1995 in Providence, RI and resulted in an 11-8 Maryland win.
  • The last time Brown played against the Terps in College Park was a 15-9 Maryland win in 1978.
