Maryland and Illinois traded solo home runs in the first inning and remained tied until the fourth. Diamond Williams homered for the Terps. It was her 12th home run of the season, which ranks tied for fourth in program history for a single season.

- Stevie Meade homered in the top of the first to get Illinois on the board first. It was a solo home run and the Illini took a 1-0 advantage.
- Diamond Williams homered in the bottom of the inning to knot the game up at 1-1. It was her 12th home run of the season.
- Bri Godfrey worked out of a fourth-inning jam with runners on second and third.
- Sydney Lewis hit an RBI double in the fourth inning to break the tie and take a 2-1 lead.
- The Illini scored three runs in the fourth with two singles. One was a two-RBI single and the other an RBI single. They took a 4-2 lead.
- Delaney Reefe drove home a run in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly to trail 4-3. Hannah Runk tagged up to score after her leadoff triple.
- Madison Runyan threw out a runner at home plate to keep the game within one score in the seventh.
- The Terps had one final chance to send the game to extra innings or walk it off but couldn't capitalize.
- Diamond Williams hit her 12th home run of the season and is tied for fourth on the single-season Maryland leaderboard with Lindsey Schmeiser (2013), Erin Pronobis (2015) and Shannon Bustillos (2015).
