COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland continues its four-game homestand to open the 2025 season when it hosts Saint Joseph's (1-3) on Saturday, February 22 at 3 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Where We've Been
- The Terrapins picked up their first win of the 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 9-7 home win over Georgetown on February 18. Grad student Chrissy Thomas continued her helping ways with four assists, while freshman Kayla Gilmore and senior Kate Sites led the scoring with two goals apiece. The Terrapin defense was stout, holding the Hoyas scoreless for 20:08, spanning the second and third quarters. JJ Suriano picked up her first win in net, stopping 11 Georgetown shots.
- The Terps lost their season opener, 15-9, to #6 Syracuse on February 15. Junior Kori Edmonson led the Terrapins with four goals vs. the Orange, while grad student Chrissy Thomas became the 66th Terp in program history to reach the 100-point mark with three assists.
Series history vs. Saint Joseph's
- This will be Maryland and Saint Joseph's fourth meeting all-time, with the Terps holding a 3-0 advantage. The Terps and Hawks only started their series in 2022. Maryland has won all three meetings by an average score of 12.33-4.67.
- The two squads' only meeting in College Park was in the 2023 season opener. The Terps won 15-5 on February 11 at SECU Stadium. This will be the first-ever game between the two schools at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Scouting The Hawks
- Saint Joseph's is 1-3 so far in 2025 after picking up its first win on Wednesday, February 19, 14-7, on the road at Temple. The Hawks started the season with road losses to #18 Navy (16-9, February 7) and Villanova (14-10, February 12) and at home to #22 Penn State (13-11, February 15).
- Offensively, Alexa Capozzoli triggers the offense and leads the Hawks with 22 points on four goals and a team-leading 18 assists after scoring 10 points (2g, 8a) vs. the Owls. Sarah Groark and Maddie Yoder are tied for the team lead with 10 goals after each netted a hat trick at Temple.
- Jorden Concordia returns as the Hawks' starter in goal for her fourth season. The three-time All-Atlantic 10 goalkeeper has started ever game of her career and has a career 11.23 goals-against average and a .471 save percentage.
- The Terps will see another familiar face on the opposing sideline in Hawks head coach Alex Kahoe. The 2014 inductee into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame played on four NCAA Championship teams and was a three-time All-American and two-time NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year. Kahoe is in her 11th season with the Hawks and has a 98-79 (.554) career record.

- On Februrary 14, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the 2025 IWLCA Hall of Fame, which included Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
- Reese has guided Maryland to five national championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), 11 Final Fours, and 20 regular-season and tournament championships across the ACC and Big Ten. She is recognized as a four-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year (2010, 2014, 2015, 2019) and a 12-time conference coach of the year.
- Reese joins former Maryland head coaches Cindy Timchal (Class of 2017) and Suzanne Tyler (Class of 2018) in the IWLCA Hall of Fame.
