Track Terps Win Six Events, Post Five All-Time Top-10 Performances At Navy Select Meet

ANNAPOLIS, MD – A toal of six different Terps won events on Friday, while adding five all-time top-10 performances, at the Navy Select Meet on Friday at the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse.
The meet was the final regular-season tune-up before next week's Big Ten Indoor Championships hosted at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN. The two-day event will begin at 10:15 AM on Friday and Saturday and will be streamed on B1G+.
In Friday's meet at Navy, the field events led the way with four of the six first place finishes. Chioma Njoku won the first event of the day taking the weight throw with a toss of 21.36 meters which also stands as the second-best mark in program history as well as a personal record.
Tolu Akinduro won the triple jump with a distance of 12.77 meters which moved her up to third all-time on Maryland's top 10 list.
Nyla Cherry won the long jump (5.51 meters), while Jennessa Wolfe tied for first in the high jump (1.68 meters).
On the track, Sam Payne won the 600 meters (1:30.37) to move into second all-time. Payne cut nearly three seconds off her previous top performance in the event. She was followed by Emma Pegg who placed third and now stands fifth all-time in program history with a time of 1-minute, 31.93 seconds.
In the 400 meters, Maya Valmon won with a time of 54.58 seconds – the eighth-best mark in program history. She was followed by Maya Mosley who took second in 56.57 seconds (a new PR).
Other top performers on the day included Morgan Graham in the weight throw (3rd, 17.09m), Simone Cooper in the shot put (3rd, 12.58m), Ashley Thomas in the 60-meter hurdles (3rd, 8.93), Bryce Hatcher in the 60 meters (3rd, 7.93, won heat), Ka'nai Bey in the 200 meters (2nd, 24.82), and Hannah Mack in the 3,000 meters (2nd, 10:17.57). Isabella Castillo had a pair of top-3 finishes taking second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.90) and placing third in the long jump (5.44m).
