No. 9 Terps Cruise Past Saint Joseph’s, 18-7

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse soundly defeated Saint Joseph's, 18-7, at Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Saturday. The Terps improved to 2-1 this season. 

The Terps scored the game's first eight goals while holding Saint Joseph's scoreless for 30 minutes, as Saint Joseph's (1-4) scored at the end of the second quarter with zeros on the clock. They built a lead early and never trailed throughout the contest. Nine different Terps scored a goal overall.
  
Shelby Sullivan, Maisy Clevenger and Kori Edmondson posted hat tricks to lead the Terps. Clevenger netted four goals overall. For Sullivan and Clevenger, it was each of the players' first of their careers. Shelby, a freshman, has scored a goal in each game this season and now has five goals through three games. Clevenger, a sophomore, has six goals through three games. Edmondson scored two of her four goals from the free position line. She has six such goals this season from the eight-meter line.

  Kayla Gilmore (two goals and two assists) and Jordyn Lipkin (two goals and one assist) were the other Terps who recorded multiple goals. Chrissy Thomas (one goal and two assists), Emma Abbazia and Devin Livingston were the others who scored goals. Livingston scored the first of her career to begin the third quarter. 

JJ Suriano made four saves in her third career start. She was helped by a defense that forced nine turnovers. Kennedy Major led the unit with a career-high tying four caused turnovers. Neve O'Ferrall added two caused turnovers.
  
The Terps faced off against a familiar face on the opposing sideline, as the Hawks' head coach is Alex Kahoe. The 2014 Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame inductee played on four NCAA Championship teams and was a three-time All-American and two-time NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year. 


Hat Trick Terps 
  • Shelby Sullivan posted Maryland's second hat trick this season. It was the first of her career. Maisy Clevenger added a hat trick, the Terps' third of the season. It was also the first of her career. Kori Edmondson posted the third of the game and Maryland's fourth hat trick overall. It was the 19th of her career. 
  • Edmondson scored the other one for the Terps in the season opener.  
Multi Terps Update
  • Maisy Clevenger (four goals and one assist) had her seventh multi-point game of her career and her third game with multiple goals.
  • Kori Edmondson (three goals and one assist) recorded multiple points for the 27th time in her career. All of those games were with multiple goals. 
  • Shelby Sullivan (three goals) recorded her second career multi-point game. It was her first with multiple goals.
  • Kayla Gilmore (two goals and two assists) recorded her second career multi-point game with multiple goals.
  • Jordyn Lipkin (two goals and one assist) recorded the 14th multi-point game of her career. It was her 13th with multiple goals.
  • Chrissy Thomas (one goal and two assists had the 27th multi-point game of her career. It was her 17th game with multiple assists. 
Home Cooking 
  • Maryland is 174-12 at home under head coach Cathy Reese. It has eight undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013-19 and 2021).
  • The Terps have only lost two conference home games under Reese.
Dominating The Series 
  • This will be Maryland and Saint Joseph's fourth meeting all-time, with the Terps holding a 4-0 advantage. The Terps and Hawks only started their series in 2022 and have played every year since. 
  • The two squads' only other meeting in College Park was the 2023 season opener, which the Terps won 15-5 on February 11 at SECU Stadium. This will be the first-ever game between the two schools at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
Family Ties 
  • The Terps faced off against a familiar face on the opposing sideline, as the Hawks' head coach is Alex Kahoe. 
  • The 2014 Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame inductee played on four NCAA Championship teams, was a three-time All-American, and was a two-time NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year.
