COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Junior close defenseman
Will Schaller has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performances in Maryland's 12-6 win over then-No. 18 Virginia on Saturday, March 15.
Schaller, who earns the Big Ten honor for the second time this season, held Virginia's McCabe Millon, a preseason Second-Team All-American, to no goals and just one point in the win. Schaller has helped the Maryland defense hold opponents to single-digit scoring in six of seven games this season. Against the Cavaliers, he caused a turnover and scooped two groundballs.
Top-ranked Maryland is back in action on Saturday, March 22 when it hosts Michigan at noon on B1G+ to open Big Ten play.
