COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 3 Maryland men's lacrosse defeated Johns Hopkins, 11-8, in the 119th edition of "The Rivalry" at SECU Stadium on Saturday before 10,123 fans in its regular season finale. Maryland improved to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in Big Ten play. The Terps have now won 10+ games in 22 consecutive seasons, excluding the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season.
With the win, Maryland clinched the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and earned a first-round bye. It will play in the Semifinals on Thursday, May 1, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Johns Hopkins (6-7, 0-5) led 3-2 after a goal at the 8:54 mark of the second quarter. Maryland responded by going on a four-goal unanswered run through the first and second quarters to lead 6-3. Hopkins rallied to bring the game within one score at three separate points, even tying the game at 8-8 at the 14:06 mark in the fourth. However, Maryland ended the game with three straight goals to secure the win.
Braden Erksa led the Terps, scoring a season-high four goals in the game to go along with an assist. It was his 10th career hat trick, and third of the season. As a team, the Terps have recorded 13 hat tricks.
Daniel Kelly added two goals. His second score was the go-ahead goal to give Maryland a 9-8 lead at the 10:01 mark of the fourth quarter.
Zach Whittier (2 goal & 1 assist), Jack Schultz (1 goal & 1 assist), Aidan Aitken and Jonah Carrier also recorded scoring tallies. Carrier's was the first of his career, as the freshman won a face-off and raced towards the goal before getting a shot off. Matthew Keegan and Eric Spanos added multiple assists, each notching a pair.
Recently named to the Tewaaraton Top 25 finalist list, Logan McNaney made eight saves between the pipes.

Jackson Canfield (two) all caused multiple turnovers in the game. Canfield's second led to Erksa's fourth goal to give Maryland a two-goal advantage. Maryland has held an opponent to single-digit goals in 10 of 12 games this season.

Shea Keethler (4 wins) combined to win 9-of-23 faceoffs.
Oran Gelinas made a career-high 20 saves for Hopkins, although the Terps outshot the Blue Jays on goal 31-16.
