Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 9 Terps Fall To No. 11 Virginia, 13-9

BALTIMORE – No. 9 Maryland women's lacrosse was defeated by No. 11 Virginia, 13-9, at Notre Dame Preparatory School on Wednesday. The Terps are now 9-4 overall.
  
After back-to-back goals by Lauren LaPointe and Kayla Gilmore, Virginia (10-4) trailed 3-2 early in the second quarter. However, the Cavaliers scored five of the game's following six goals to lead 7-4 at halftime. They held on for the remained of the game. 

LaPointe led the Terps offensively, recording three goals for her third hat trick of the season and fourth of her career. Jordan Lipkin (two goals & an assist) and Devin Livingston followed as the other Terp to score multiple goals. 

Kori Edmondson (one goal & one assist) and Chrissy Thomas (two assists) were the other Terps to score multiple points. Kayla Gilmore also scored a goal in the contest. Edmonson leads the Terps with 35 goals, while Thomas leads the team with 25 assists. 

JJ Suriano made six saves at goalie. Six different Terps caused at least one turnover, including Neve O'Ferrall (two), Kennedy Major, Shelby Sullivan, Gilmore, Edmondson and Lipkin.  

Edmondson won a career-best nine draw controls. As a team, the Terps won 16-of-27 draw controls. 

This was Maryland's One Love game. Founded in 2010 to honor the memory of former Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, the One Love Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, empowering and activating young people in a movement to end relationship violence and promote healthy relationships. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • The game was tied at two goals apiece after the first quarter. Kori Edmondson scored the first goal three minutes into the game. Virginia scored the next two goals, leading by a score. However, Edmondson found Lauren LaPointe for the equalizer goal with 11 seconds left in the quarter.
  • Virginia took a 7-4 lead into halftime. The Cavaliers outscored the Terps, 5-2, in the second quarter. Kayla Gilmore scored the first tally, which was assisted by Chrissy Thomas, followed by LaPointe scoring her second of the game at the 7:41 mark.
  • Maryland trailed 10-7 at the end of the third quarter. Virginia's offense continued to control the lead for themselves, adding three more goals in the quarter. Devon Livingston added a goal for the Terps, and Jordyn Lipkin scored twice.
  • The Terps scored twice in the final frame but couldn't mount a comeback. Virginia came away with the win.

  • Lauren LaPointe (three goals) notched the sixth multi-point game of her career. It was her fifth career game with multiple goals. 
  • Jordyn Lipkin (two goals & one assist) recorded the 21st multi-point game of her career. It was her 19th with multiple goals.
  • Devin Livingston (two goals) recorded her fifth career multi-point game. It was her third career game with multiple goals. 
  • Kori Edmondson (one goal & one assist) recorded multiple points for the 36 times in her career.  She has scored multiple goals 35 times.
  • Chrissy Thomas (two assists) had the 33rd multi-point game of her career. It was her 23rd game with multiple assists.  It was her 15th with multiple goals.
