Maryland's Undefeated Start Ends With 2-0 Loss to Old Dominion

Two goals from the Monarchs spelt defeat for the Terps for the first time in 2025.

NORFOLK, VA - Maryland (3-1) was defeated for the first time in 2025 on Sunday night in a 2-0 road loss to Old Dominion (2-0-1). 

The Monarchs scored the match's first goal in the 22nd minute on a shot from Gry Boe Thrysøe following a corner kick. The ball struck the top of the crossbar and bounced several times, barely sneaking past the line to put ODU ahead. The goal was upheld after video review, becoming the first goal that the Terps have allowed in 2025 after 287 minutes of play. 

Old Dominion led 1-0 at the half after a physical first 45 minutes from both squads that featured as many fouls (eight) as shots on goal. Several key saves from Maryland goalkeeper Faith Luckey kept the Terps in the match. Six of Luckey's seven total saves came in the first half of action. 

The Monarchs opened the second half with a goal in the 48th minute on a shot by Ashlynn Kulha that doubled their lead. Old Dominion largely maintained possession for the remainder of the match, sealing Maryland's first loss of the season. 

How it Happened:
  • Luckey made a huge save in the second minute, diving to her right.
  • Luckey made two saves in the first seven minutes on four shots faced.
  • Alyssa Abramson recorded Maryland's first shot in the 11th minute. 
  • Luckey made another save on a bicycle kick shot from ODU in the 19th minute.
  • Old Dominion scored in the 22nd minute, becoming the first team to score on Maryland this season. Boe Thrysøe scored the goal unassisted.  
  • Luckey made another diving save in the 33rd minute.
  • Kulha scored in the 48th minute to extend the Monarchs' lead. 
Numbers to Know:
  • 7: Luckey made career-high seven saves in the loss. 
  • 287: Luckey's streak of scoreless minutes to start the season ended after 287 in her fourth match of the season.
