COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland softball team travels to Greenville, North Carolina for the Purple-Gold Classic hosted by ECU. The Terps will face off three opponents over three days of competition. The action kicks off Feb. 13 when the Terps open the weekend with a doubleheader against Buffalo at 10 a.m. and Notre Dame at 12:30 p.m.

Maryland opened the 2026 season in Orlando, Florida to play in the Black & Gold Classic. The Terps went 2-5 through the weekend, picking up wins against Buffalo and CSU Bakersfield.
In head coach Lauren Karn's first two years leading the Terps, she compiled a 42-61 overall record while coaching two All-Big Ten selections and earning three victories over Top-25 opponents.
The Terps played the Buffalo Bulls in the Black & Gold Classic in Orlando, Florida. Maryland earned their first win of the 2026 season over the Bulls, 10-3. Caitlin Olensky picked up her first win in the circle and the Terps had a seventh inning rally to score eight runs to secure the win.
Maryland is 0-7 all-time against Notre Dame. Last time these two teams met was February 19, 2015. The Fighting Irish pulled away with a 8-6 win in Palm Springs, California
ECU finished the 2025 season 31-26 and 14-13 in conference play. Maryland is 8-5 all-time against the Pirates.
Maryland played in the Purple-Gold Classic in 2023, winning all five games of the tournament. The Terps picked up wins against Saint Joseph's, East Carolina, and Monmouth.

Black & Gold Classic

Maryland went 2-5 at the Black & Gold Classic. The Terps picked up their first win of 2026 against Buffalo, 10-3 off a seventh inning rally.
10 different players made their first-career start or appearance as a Terp.
Anna McGowan led the Terps over the weekend, recording her first four hits in a Maryland uniform, highlighted by two doubles. She scored one run and drove in two RBI while posting a .800 batting average and 1.200 slugging percentage
Freshman Zayda Rocke started all five games at catcher. She recorded her first-career hit in the 10-3 win against Buffalo (2/6). Rocke finished the weekend with three hits and two RBI.
Caroline Fox made her Maryland debut at second base. She recorded four hits, including two doubles, and four RBI. Logan Turner made an appearance as the designated player, recording two hits.

B1G PLayers to watch

Kiera Bucher, Sammi Woods, and Bailey Murphy were named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List for 2026.
Bucher returns to College Park for her senior season in the circle. Last season, she made 19 appearances pitching 63.2 innings recording 33 strikeouts. She holds the all-time Maryland softball record of saves (12).
Murphy led the Terps last season with a .326 average with two doubles, one triple, and eight RBI. She had the fifth most hits on the team (30).
Woods returns at shortstop for the Terps. She finished with a team fourth best .294 average, hitting nine doubles and three homeruns. She picked up her 100th career hit against Nebraska (5/4).

The Terps welcome five freshmen to College Park: Zayda Rocke, Bailey Ullman, Kate Stephens, Elisea Wiegand, and Sage Rodmyre.
Stephens enters Maryland with an impressive list of accolades: 4x First Team All-League, 4x First Team All-District, 4x All-Region, and she set the single season record for home runs at Stoney Creek in 2025.
Rodmyre was dominant at Fort Myers High School, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors (2022), Defensive Player of the Year honors (2023), and All-State and First Team All-Area recognition (2024).
The Terps welcome seven transfers this season. Caroline Fox, Biz Baglieri, Jaylee Williams, Anna McGowan, Lauren Caye, Logan Turner, and Caitlin Olensky.
