COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland softball team continues Big Ten play this weekend against the Indiana Hoosiers. The action kicks off on Friday March 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Maryland Softball Stadium.

  • Maryland enters the weekend with a 13-14 overall record and a 1-5 mark in Big Ten play. The Terps host the Indiana Hoosiers this weekend.
  • The Terps trail the all-time series against Indiana 6-19. In College Park, the Terps are 3-7. The teams last met in 2025 when the Hoosiers swept the Terps in Bloomington.
  • Sammi Woods leads the team with a .400 AVG (36 hits), Mariah Penta is second on the team with a .338 AVG, with 27 hits. She is tied for first on the team in doubles (5), and has three home runs. 
  • In head coach Lauren Karn's first two years leading the Terps, she compiled a 42-61 overall record while coaching two All-Big Ten selections and earning three victories over Top-25 opponents.
  • Maryland will host the 2026 Big Ten Softball Tournament at the Maryland Softball Stadium, May 6-9. This will be the first year College Park will host the Big Ten Softball Tournament. Maryland's last win in the Tournament was in 2024, where the No. 10 ranked Terrapins upset No. 7 Penn State, 3-1 in nine innings.

  • The Terps earned an 11-7 win against George Washington in 10 innings, which ties for the fourth longest game in program history. The last 10 inning game was a 5-4 win against Purdue in 2024.
  • Matti Benson hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning. She recorded a team high four hits, including two home runs, and seven RBI, which ties the program record for RBI in a single game.
  • Bailey Murphy and Mariah Penta each recorded three hits. Logan Turner and Sammi Woods picked up two hits.
  • Jaylee Williams recorded her first two hits as a Terp.
Record book performance
  • The 2026 Terps have etched their name in the record book, recording 18 hits against Providence (2/28), placing them fifth all-time for hits as a team in a single game.
  • Anna McGowan is tied for second in Maryland Softball history for RBIs in a single game, recording six against Providence (2/28).
  • Maryland also recorded four home runs in the 8-1 win against Fairfield (2/28), which ties for third all-time in the record book for home runs in a single game.
  • In game one of the series against Rutgers, Maryland played a 12 inning game which tied for the second longest game in program history. Maryland's longest game spanned 14 innings in a 4-2 loss against Florida State in March of 2007.
