Spanos’ Eight-Goal Day Lifts No. 12 Terps Past Michigan 14-8

Eric Spanos’ historic day led the way to Maryland’s fourth win of the season.

ANN ARBOR, MI — No. 12 Maryland used an eight-goal day from Eric Spanos to earn a 14-8 road win over Michigan on Saturday afternoon and move to 4-4 (1-1 Big Ten) in 2026.  Spanos netted a career-high eight goals in the Terps' first Big Ten win of 2026. All four of Maryland's second-quarter goals came from Spanos, marking the first four-goal quarter by a Terp since 2021. Maryland got its day started with a four-goal first quarter that featured four different scorers. Spanos, Leo Johnson, and Jack Schultz netted three consecutive goals before Chris Lyons found the back of the net in the final second of the frame to give Maryland an early 4-2 lead. Johnson tallied two of his three assists in the opening quarter.  Spanos scored two of Maryland's three third-quarter goals to set a new career high before adding to it with a goal in the final frame. His eight goals marked the most by a Terp since Jared Bernhardt scored eight against the Wolverines in 2021.
