Peter Laake Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Sophomore defenseman Peter Laake was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Terps' 12–2 win over No. 19 Rutgers, helping Maryland clinch a share of the Big Ten Championship on Saturday.

Laake anchored the Maryland defense in the dominant victory, as the Terps allowed just two goals—the fewest they have ever surrendered in a Big Ten game and their lowest total since holding Villanova to two in 2015. He also shut down Big Ten leader in points and points per game Colin Kurdyla, holding him scoreless, and added two caused turnovers.

Laake and the Terps return to action this Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at Homewood Field for the final game of the 2026 regular season and the 120th meeting between the two teams in "The Rivalry."
