As a Freshman (2011-12): Served a redshirt season...went 1-3 at 125 pounds in open competition...recorded a technical fall over Steven Cox of The Citadel in the opening round of the National Collegiate Open (2/26).
Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner at Westmont Hilltop...won the district championship in 2011...regional runner-up...qualified for the state tournament...finished second in the region and district in 2010...fourth place finish at the state tournament...2009 district and region runner-up...finished third in the state...finished fourth, fifth and seventh at the POWERade...placed fourth twice at Mount Mat Madness.
Personal: Full name is Joshua Michael Polacek...son of Thomas and Mary Polacek...has three siblings, T.J., Sarah and Conner...graduated from Westmont Hilltop with a 4.0 GPA...chose Maryland over Pittsburgh, Bucknell and George Mason...plans to major in biology.
