Terps Give No. 14-ranked Duke A Scare Before Falling, 5-2, In Men's Tennis

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshmen Haris Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and David Reichsfeld (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) helped the Maryland men's tennis team earn twoC points against No. 14- ranked Duke, before falling, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Center At College Park. The Terps also captured a victory in doubles play at the No. 3 spot. Causevic improved his record to 8-4 on the year defeating Michael Yani of Duke, ranked 58th in the nation, in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the top singles spot. At the No. 6 position, Reichsfeld beat Duke's Darin Goldstein 3-6, 6-4, 2-0. Goldstein retired in the middle of the third set. The victory is Reichsfeld's eight of the season, tieing him with Causevic for the most wins on the team. For both individuals, it was their first points in conference play this season.
At the No. 2 singles position, junior Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) fell to Jason Zimmerman, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Troy Demers (Annapolis, Md.) lost to Joel Spicher, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, dropping his record to 6-5 on the season. Terrapin senior Jonathan Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.) dropped his match to Yorke Allen, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. Duke's Peter Shults defeated junior Greg Chambers (Silver Spring, Md.), 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 position.
In doubles competition, Chiu and Chambers became the third Maryland doubles team to earn a win in the ACC this season, downing Yani and Goldstein of the Blue Devils, 8-6 at the No. 3 spot. The pair is now 5-4 together this year. Maryland's top doubles team of Causevic and Murchison fell to 7-2 on the season, losing to Yorke and Spicher, 8-4. Zimmerman and Shults of Duke defeated Demers and Reichsfeld, 8-3, at the No. 2 position to earn the doubles point for the Blue Devils.
The Terps fall to 6-6 on the season and 0-4 in the ACC while Duke raises it's record to 6-8 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Maryland will face their second top 25 ranked team in as many days when they take on No. 22-ranked Wake Forest at 10 a.m. at the Tennis Center At College Park tomorrow.
