Averaged 20.5 points and 9.8 rebounds during his three-year career ... was selected as a three-time All-American and a three-time Academic All-American ... finished as school’s all-time leader in points (1807), points/g (20.5) and 20-point games (48) ... one of only three Terps to average more than 20 points per game in successive seasons and is one of two players in school history with a career scoring average over 20 points per game ... led Maryland to the 1972 National Invitation Tournament championship, earning tournament MVP honors ... earned a silver medal for the United States in the 1972 Olympic Games ... played in the NBA for 11 seasons with Buffalo, Atlanta, New York and Washington ... put his professional basketball career on hold one year directly out of college in order to fulfill his Rhodes Scholarship obligations by studying for a year at Oxford ... was elected to the U.S. Congress from Maryland’s 4th district in 1986 ... served as Co-Chair of the President’s Commission on Physical Fitness.
