Tim O'Branski

Tim O'Branski

Tim O’Branski joined the Maryland men's lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in September of 2022 and will be entering his third season with the Terrapins in 2025. He brings to College Park over a decade of experience in college coaching.
O'Branski continued to work closely with the face-off specialists and defense in 2024 as Luke Wierman had another transcendent season. Wierman, who became the school's all-time leader in both faceoffs won and groundballs, was the NCAA Division I statistical champion for Face-Off Winning Percentage as well as an All-American. He was at his best in the postseason as the Terps put together a run to the, winning an exceptional 72-of-101 for 71.3%.

In his first season in College Park, O'Branski worked closely with Maryland's dominant face-off unit, led by back-to-back USILA All-American and First Team All-Big Ten faceoff specialist Luke Wierman. Wierman finished the season winning 60.6% of his 416 faceoffs taken. Wierman won 252 total faceoffs, the second-most in a single-season at Maryland, trailing only his own record of 298 in 2022. Additionally, he finished the season with 135 groundballs, the third most in a single-season at Maryland ever. Relying heavily on success at the faceoff X, the Terps made their 20th consecutive postseason appearance.

Before becoming a Terp, O’Branski spent two years as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Mercer University.  He led the Bears’ offense to program season highs in goals (157), assists per game (6.4), points per game (16.87), and shooting percentage (28.2%) while also setting single-game highs in goals (22), assists (21), and points (43).

O’Branski arrived at Mercer after six years on the coaching staff at Johns Hopkins University as Director of Lacrosse Operations where he had a hand in numerous areas, including logistical, operational, and player personnel aspects of the program.  He was also extensively involved with the programs’ lacrosse camps and actively involved in managing the team’s social media platforms.  The Blue Jays won two Big Ten Championships (2015, 2018) and advanced to the NCAA Semifinals (2015) while O’Branski was on staff.

O’Branski was added to the staff at Johns Hopkins following two seasons at Georgetown University, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach with the men’s lacrosse team.

At Georgetown, he was focused on the development of face-off and offensive personnel while assisting in all areas of the program.  He gained valuable experience with on-field coaching at the Division I level and also handled the team’s film-exchange, developed scouting reports and was deeply involved in the team’s video scouting.

O’Branski was directly responsible for the Hoya face-off unit, which excelled during his two seasons as a member of the coaching staff.  The Hoyas’ Tyler Knarr finished third in the nation in face-off winning percentage in 2014 (.659) and also led the nation in ground balls per game (10.93) en route to earning Third Team USILA All-America honors and a spot on the USILA Scholar All-America Team.   Georgetown finished ninth in the nation in face-off winning percentage as a team in 2013 and second in 2014.

O’Branski was a member of the US Men’s National Team staff at the 2014 FIL World Championships and the US Men’s U-19 National Team at the 2016 FIL World Championships.  He served as the team’s official videographer with an emphasis on practice, game film, and live scouting for the coaching staff that could be used to evaluate individual players, team concepts and opponents.

O’Branski joined the Hoya coaching staff after three seasons coaching at Salisbury University, where he helped the Sea Gulls to a record of 65-3 with three NCAA Championship Game appearances and consecutive Division III National Championships (2011, 2012).

O’Branski was a three-year member of the Salisbury University lacrosse team and helped the team to a pair of undefeated national championship seasons (2007, 2008).  He served as a captain as a senior and graduated with a degree in Spanish with minors in athletic coaching and political science.  He also earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching for Secondary Foreign Languages at Salisbury.

O’Branski and his wife, Brittany, were married in August 2019 and welcomed their daughter, Kinsley, in April 2022.
