Chasity "Chas" Frieson joined the Gossett Student-Athlete Center (GSAC) in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Director in September 2022. In her role, she provides academic support for the men's basketball, gymnastics, and women's volleyball programs while overseeing the Assistant Coordinator Program, Tutorial Support Services, and New Student Orientation. She also manages several GSAC programs and initiatives and supports the day-to-day operations of the academic unit.
As a member of the GSAC Senior Team, Frieson contributes to the strategic leadership and long-term vision of academic support services for Maryland student-athletes. She also serves on the Eligibility and Certification Team and is an active member of the Academic & Compliance Sub-Committee of the Athletics Council. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the department and commitment to student-athlete success, she was named Terp of the Month in March 2025.
Prior to joining Maryland, Frieson worked in student-athlete academic support roles at Florida State University and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. A dedicated member of the National Association for Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) since 2015, Frieson is a graduate of the Steve McDonnell Professional Development Institute (Class of 2019) and has presented at the N4A National Conference in 2016 and 2022. She is also an active member of Women Leaders in Sports and serves on the University of Maryland's Women Leaders in Sports Working Group.
Originally from Columbia, Missouri, Frieson earned a full athletic scholarship to play basketball at Southwest Baptist University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Sport Management in 2013. She later earned a Master's degree in Sport Administration and Leadership from Lindenwood University in 2015 while serving as a graduate assistant in the athletics academic services unit.
Frieson resides in Howard County, Maryland, with her husband, Devon, and their two children, Jaxon and Ivey. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, visiting local wineries, riding motorcycles with her husband, and mentoring young professionals pursuing careers in athletics and higher education.
