Williams to Enter Hall of Legends

BALTIMORE - Using the term "legendary" has become fairly normal when describing Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams.

Now it's official.

Gary Williams will be among the first class of inductees in the Hall of Legends honored on Thursday, Sept. 30 at The Hippodrome theater in Baltimore. The Hall of Legends Induction will be hosted by the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards.

He will join a class that includes Babe Ruth, Johnny Unitas, Art Modell, Jim McKay and Brooks Robinson. the six inductees will be permanently featured in a new gallery at Baltimore's Sports Legends Museum that will be reserved to honor individuals who have contributed above and beyond at the top echelon of State and national athletics.

Tickets for the event on Sept. 30 will go on sale on August 19 via Ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 410-547-7328.

The ceremony for Williams will feature tributes to the Maryland coach from former players, Hall of Fame coaches and others. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Villanova coach Jay Wright and former Maryland standouts Len Elmore, Tom McMillen, Johnny Rhodes and Walt Williams are all scheduled to attend, according to published reports.

The Hall of Legends induction ceremony will benefit the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards, Coaches vs. Cancer, and the UMCP Foundation.
