Myers Places 7th on Day Two of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, OHIO. – Senior heavyweight Spencer Myers won a rematch with Illinois' Brooks Black to earn a seventh-place finish at the Big Ten Championships at St. John Arena Sunday afternoon.

Myers, who dropped his opening round match to Black on Saturday, rebounded to defeat the Illini grappler, 3-2. Redshirt junior Lou Mascola dropped his eighth-place match, but did enough to appear on the podium during the championship session.

“Today was an okay day,” head coach Kerry McCoy said. “I was happy that Spencer got his win. We have three national qualifiers and I think our guys wrestled hard. It gives us something to build on.”

Myers outlasted Black and used a reversal in the third period to seal the win. The senior will make his fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships in two weeks. He was an All-American as a freshman.

Mascola dropped his consolation match, but his eighth-place finish was good enough to give him his first-ever appearance at an NCAA Championships. Geoffrey Alexander also earned a bid.

The 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships will take place March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Coverage can be seen on ESPN, ESPNU and the WatchESPN App.
