Williams and Massenburg Release "Lessons From Lenny"

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland basketball all-time greats Walt Williams and Tony Massenburg recently collaborated to release a compelling narrative, "LESSONS FROM LENNY: The Journey Beyond a Shooting Star."

The book stitches together three decades of conversations between Williams, Massenburg and the legends of College Park as it details the testament of heartbreak, survival and achievement.

Williams and Massenburg were first teammates on the Maryland basketball team and have spent the last 30 years reminiscing about the glory days of college. Their conversations inevitably had a knack for returning to Bias.

"Whenever Tony and I talked about Maryland basketball, Len Bias' name would always come up and dominate the conversation," Williams said. "We felt it was important to let everyone know what an inspiration Len Bias was to us and the way he impacted both the state of Maryland and the university."

The pair offers varying vantage points of the Len Bias tragedy, as Massenburg was a teammate of Bias and Williams was a big-time local recruit with a decision to make.

"Maryland needed student-athletes like Tony and Walt to survive devastating circumstances and the university continues to benefit from their example," said former Maryland head coach Gary Williams. "It's just great to see them doing so well in their lives. They make great messengers of the lessons going forward."

Williams was an All-American at Maryland (1988-92) before playing 11 seasons in the NBA, while Massenburg played 13 seasons in the NBA after a successful career for the Terps (1986-90).
