Terps Edged at Ohio State, 1-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State scored the game's lone goal midway through the first half as the Buckeyes (4-6-1) topped Maryland (6-4-2), 1-0 Thursday evening.  

Freshman Nicole Kowczka played admirable in her collegiate debut for the Terrapins, making three saves in 45 minutes of the second half. The Livingston, N.J. native was aggressive off her line throughout the half, keeping the Terps in the one-goal game.

Maryland's best chances came early in the game at Jesse Memorial Stadium, with the Terps outshooting the Buckeyes 9-7 in the first half.

UMD produced two early chances from Poarch in the opening half, as she forced a save on a shot in the seventh minute and followed it up with a header that forced another stop off the ensuing corner.

The Terps had the edge early, but couldn't find the net as Ohio State began to gain possession in their offensive end.

The Buckeyes managed to break through in the 30th minute after Olivia Petit took a rip from deep on the left wing and snuck a ball into the back right corner of the net.

Poarch had another chance for UMD right before half creating a shot outside the 18, but it sailed wide right.   

The Terps were unable to create many threatening chances in the second half, totaling just five shots while fending off an aggressive Buckeye side.

Maryland will return home to take the pitch this Sunday, October 6 to host Illinois at Ludwig Field. Kickoff is slated for 2 pm.
