COLUMBUS, Ohio --
King Sandoval used a six-point takedown and nearfall in the first period of the 133-pound bout vs. No. 19 Jordan Decatur to get ahead and ultimately win a 10-8 decision, but the Maryland wrestling team would fall, 43-3, at Ohio State on Friday night.
In the only other decision of the evening, Malik Heinselman earned a 7-2 victory over
Brandon Cray.
In a Buckeye lineup that featured six ranked (Intermat) wrestlers, five of them earned victories and bonus points.
Hunter Baxter faced No. 1 Luke Pletcher at 141 pounds and was pinned in 1:57,
Ryan Garlitz faced No. 2 Sammy Sasso at 149 pounds and dropped a 23-8 tech. fall,
Kyle Cochran faced No. 14 Ethan Smith and dropped a 20-7 major decision,
Philip Spadafora dropped a 13-4 major decision to No. 7 Kaleb Romero, and
Niko Cappello was pinned in 2:36 by No. 1 Kollin Moore.
