Terps Narrowly Fall to Coastal Carolina, 3-2

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Maryland baseball team fell to Coastal Carolina, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina. Maryland (6-4) dropped its third straight as Coastal Carolina (7-3) swept the three-game weekend series.

What to Know
  • Maryland got a great start from redshirt freshman right-hander Sean Burke. The Sutton, Massachusetts native tossed a career-high six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out eight. Burke has struck out eight batters in all three starts this season.
  • Benjamin Cowles went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, his first multi-hit game of the season. Cowles was the only Terp to record multiple hits in the third game of the series.
  • Matt Orlando hit the first double of his career, a line drive that landed in shallow left-center in and rolled nearly all the way to the warning track in the third inning. The freshman infielder earned his first career hit earlier in the series. Orlando also made a number of standout defensive plays at the hot corner, getting just his fourth start of the season at third base.
  • Chris Alleyne and Randy Bednar recorded Maryland's lone RBIs of the afternoon, both base hits. Maxwell Costes also recorded a hit and has reached base in every game this season.
  • Justin Vought and Tommy Gardiner were absent from the Maryland lineup to to injury. Vought had started every game but one until exiting Friday's game in the fifth inning, while Tommy Gardiner started at third base in every game but one heading into the weekend.
