Seven Terps Land on All-Big Ten Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Jared Bernhardt was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year while Nick Grill was named the Defensive Player of the Year as the duo headlined Maryland's seven-player All-Big Ten selections announced by the conference today.
The seven All-B1G selections ties the most-ever in a single season for Maryland (2016) while the four first team honorees also ties a yearly program high (2015).
Bernhardt and Grill were joined by attackman Logan Wisnauskas and defenseman Brett Makar on the first team. Short stick defensive midfielder Roman Puglise, midfielder Kyle Long and goalie Logan McNaney were second team selections.
Bernhardt, the current frontrunner for the Tewaaraton trophy, was unanimously selected as the B1G OPOY after a dominant season in Big Ten play. This is the third First Team All-B1G selection for the Longwood, Fla. native, becoming the first Terrapin to garner three first team selections.
The senior leads the nation in scoring, averaging 4.33 goals per game with 43 total goals on the season. The three-time USILA All-American broke Maryland's goals record earlier this season and now sits at 174 career goals. He is four points away from tying Matt Rambo's points record (257).
Bernhardt has posted a career-high six goals in two different games this season and has tallied a hat trick in nine consecutive games. Bernhardt has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week five times this season – the most ever by a player in a single season in conference history.
Grill has established himself as one of the nation's top defenders during the 2021 season, garnering national praise for his play for the top-ranked Terrapins. Grill became the first player in Big Ten history to win the conference's Defensive Player of the Week in three consecutive weeks this season after earning the distinction in the first three weeks of league play.
The Bridgewater, N.J. native ranks first in the Big Ten in caused turnovers per game (1.2), and has helped anchor Maryland's defensive unit which has allowed opponents just 9.8 goals per game in 2021. Grill was selected by the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club in the 2021 PLL College Draft earlier this week.
Wisnauskas received his second career All-Big Ten nod as a unanimous selection after the Tewaaraton nominee put together a sensational 10-game campaign in conference play in 2021. The senior currently ranks third in the conference in points per game (4.9), totaling 27 goals and 22 assists.
The Sykesville, Md. native became the program's seventh player to reach 200 career points earlier this season in Maryland's 17-10 win over Penn State on April 3. The 2019 USILA All-American became Maryland's all-time leader in 8+ point games after a career-best 9-point (2G, 7A) outing against #20 Johns Hopkins on March 6. For his efforts, Wisnauskas was named the U.S. Lacrosse National Player of the Week, a USILA Team of the Week honoree and the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Makar garnered his first career All-Big Ten selection unanimously after a breakout season in 2021 on the defensive end. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. native has totaled 24 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers, while helping pace Maryland's defensive unit to just 9.8 goals allowed per game.
Makar was named to the USILA Team of the Week (3/30) and B1G Defensive Player of the Week (4/6) this season, while being named a First Team Midseason All-American via Inside Lacrosse.
Puglise earned his first career nod to the All-Big Ten team after leading Maryland's short stick defensive midfield rotation in 2021. The Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American has tallied a goal and assist on the year, while scooping 13 ground balls and causing a turnover. The Lorton, Va. native has been a major factor for UMD's defensive success, helping keep opponents to under 10 goals in five different games this year.
Long has put together a standout junior campaign for the Terps, totaling 31 points on 10 goals and 21 assists. The Springfield, Pa. native has posted at least one assist in every game this season, including four games of three or more assists. The junior has been a catalyst for Maryland's high-powered offense this season, helping pace the Terps to 16.6 goals per game (2nd nationally) and 10.3 assists per game (3rd nationally).
McNaney has been impressive during his first full season entrenched as Maryland's starting goalie, posting a 10-0 record in the cage with a 53.5% save percentage. His 9.65 goals against average ranks first in the Big Ten, and he has twice been named the conference's Specialist of the Week in 2021. The Corning, N.Y. native has picked up 29 ground balls, caused six turnovers and scored an unforgettable goal in Maryland's 18-8 win over Ohio State on April 18.
