COLLEGE PARK, MD - The seventh-ranked Maryland field hockey squad (2-1) will host the Terrapin Invitational this weekend. The Terps will welcome California, American, UMass and Richmond to College Park.
Maryland will take on No. 21 UMass (4-0) Friday at 4 p.m., with American (1-2) and Richmond (0-3) taking the pitch for a 7 p.m. game after. Parking will open in lot 11B, the lot next to the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, at 4 p.m. Friday. Fans planning to arrive before 4 p.m. can park in the metered lot across the street, the XFINITY Visitors Lot. That lot is metered 24 hours a day.
On Sunday, UMass and American will play at 11:30 a.m., then the Terrapins and California (2-1) will play at 2 p.m.
Admission to all four games is free. The four matchups will also be streamed on B1G+ and fans can watch with their B1G+ subscriptions.

2021-22 STORYLINES
Right here, right now
- Maryland won at No. 12 12 Duke, 4-0, Sunday. Bibi Donraadt scored twice in the first 8:00. Julianna Tornetta and Hope Rose also scored. Maryland's defense was stifling, holding the Blue Devils to one shot in the first 22:00 and 4 overall.
- Donraadt was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday for her third career weekly honor. She scored two of her three goals with an assist this past weekend. She is leading the Terrapins in scoring and in assists.
- The Terps return 18 letterwinners from their 2020-21 squad, including All-Americans Brooke DeBerdine and Riley Donnelly. The Terps welcome five newcomers - Carly Hynd, Paige Kieft, Kylee Niswonger and US National Team players Julianna Tornetta and Hope Rose.
- Senior Riley Donnelly, junior Emma DeBerdine and freshman Hope Rose won bronze with the US Under-21 Team in the Junior Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile this past weekend. Rose was named MVP of the event.
- The Terrapins went 8-7 in the 2020 season (played in the spring of 2021). The Terps closed the regular season with a series sweep of No. 6 Rutgers.
Preseason honors
- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Julianna Tornetta and freshman Hope Rose of the ninth-ranked Maryland field hockey squad were named to the Big Ten's Players to Watch List.
- All three Terrapins were named to the US National Team roster this summer, along with former Terps Linnea Gonzales, Kelee Lepage and Carrie Hanks.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, was voted team captain for the second straight season. She also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors this past spring.
- Tornetta, a graduate transfer from Princeton, and Rose are newcomers to the Terrapins' roster. Tornetta earned NFHCA All-America honors at Princeton in the 2019 and 2018 seasons. She helped the Tigers to back-to-back Final Four appearances and an appearance in the national title game. She tallied 18 goals and 33 assists in her career as a Tiger.
- Rose, an incoming freshman from Dauphin, Pa., earned MAX Field Hockey All-America honors. She scored 233 career goals in her high school career.

- Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt of the Maryland field hockey squad were voted team captain and vice captain, respectively, by their teammates for the fall 2021 season.
- DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, served as the team's captain for the spring 2021 season.
- Greenwalt earned back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

- Voted National Coach of the Year an unprecedented nine times, head coach Missy Meharg has exemplified the tradition of excellence Maryland field hockey has become known for, a program with eight National Championships, 18 Final Fours and 26 conference championships - solidifying the Terrapins' position among the top programs in the nation.
- Now in her 34th season, Meharg has earned a record of 592-150-9 (.794). She has more wins than any coach at Maryland in any sport.

- No. 21 UMass is 4-0 so far this season. The Minutewomen beat Vermont, 3-1, and Albany, 2-1, last weekend. Emilie Marchio and Georgie McTear are leading UMass with four goals each. Maryland is 16-0 all-time vs. UMass. Most recently, the Terrapins won 2-1 in a shootout on Nov. 12, 2016 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in College Park.
- UMass head coach Barb Weinberg was a volunteer assistant coach with the Maryland field hockey program for three years. She was a part of the staffs that won the 2010 and 2011 NCAA titles.
