COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland had a nation's best eight players named Inside Lacrosse Preseason Media All-Americans Thursday in a release made by the organization's offices. The Terrapins bring back one of the deepest rosters in the nation in 2022, as the program returns from a historic 15-1 campaign a season ago. Â
Defensive anchors Roman Puglise and Brett Makar were both named First Team selections, Logan Wisnauskas, Jonathan Donville and Kyle Long earned Second Team Honors, while Anthony DeMaio, Owen Prybylski and Logan McNaney garnered Honorable Mention plaudits.
Puglise returns for his fifth season of collegiate lacrosse in 2022 as one of the nation's most experienced and respected short stick defensive midfielders. Puglise is a three-time Inside Lacrosse All-American, earning Third Team honors last year. He was also a Second Team All-Big Ten honoree after notching three goals, an assist, 27 ground balls and four caused turnovers in 16 games last season.
Makar put together a breakout year last season for the Terps on the defensive end, totaling 48 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers on his way to a Second Team All-American nod from IL. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. helped pace Maryland's defensive unit to just over 10 goals allowed per game, and consistently drew the opposition's toughest assignment every game. The senior was also named First Team All-Big Ten and a 2021 Big Ten All-Tournament Team nominee.
Wisnauskas is back for his fifth year with the program and will wear the esteemed No. 1 jersey for the Terps after another exceptional offensive campaign in 2022. The attackman finished the season 17th nationally in points per game (4.50), totaling 41 goals and a team-best 31 assists. The Sykesville, MD native is a three-time Inside Lacrosse All-American and ranks tied for third all-time in Maryland history with 231 points.
Donville will make his Terrapin debut in February after transferring from Cornell for his final season of collegiate lacrosse in 2022. The Oakville, Ontario native did not compete last season, but garnered Second Team Preseason All-American honors from IL after recording 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists in 2020. Donville was taken as the first overall pick in the 2021 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
Long will be a focal point of Maryland's first midfield line once again this season, a year removed from a breakout junior campaign where he was named a Third Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. The Springfield, Pa. native started in all 16 games ranking fourth on the team in points (44) and tied for second on the team in assists (28).
DeMaio is back in College Park for his fifth season of competition with the Terps, after compiling another impressive season in 2021. He was named a USILA All-American and Big Ten All-Tournament team selection. The Coronado, CA native ranked fifth on the team in points (43), while coming through in the clutch for Maryland with a OT goal against Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Prybylski is set to make his Terp debut next month after transferring to the program from Villanova. The Westfield, N.J. native made 49 career starts for the Wildcats, scooping 86 ground balls while causing 47 turnovers and two goals.
Rounding out the nation's leading team in Inside Lacrosse All-American selections is goalie Logan McNaney. McNaney earned an Honorable Mention nod from IL last season after posting 15 wins in the cage for the Terps with a 52.2% save percentage and 9.89 goals against average. Â
