Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 1 Terps Tame No. 20 Tigers, 15-10

COLLEGE PARK, MDLogan Wisnauskas and Jonathan Donville each scored four goals as No. 1 Maryland topped No. 20 Princeton, 15-10, at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Terps stayed perfect on the season at 4-0. 

Wisnauskas had six points (4G, 2A) in the game moving him to second place on Maryland's all-time list as he now has 262 in his career. He passed Matt Rambo (257) and now only trails Jared Bernhardt (290).

Face-off man Luke Wierman had another big game with two goals, dominating at the X, winning 19-of-27 draws. He also had 11 groundballs. 
 
Maryland's other goals came from Jack Brennan, Kyle Long, Daniel Maltz, Owen Murphy and Roman Puglise. Long, Maltz and Puglise also all had assists for two-point games. 

The Terps defense was stout, causing 12 turnovers with Ajax Zappitello leading the way with three. Matt Rahill and John Geppert each caused a pair of turnovers.

Maryland's other goals came from Jack Brennan, Kyle Long, Daniel Maltz, Owen Murphy and Roman Puglise. Long, Maltz and Puglise also all had assists for two-point games. 

The Terps defense was stout, causing 13 turnovers with Ajax Zappitello and Matt Rahill leading the way with three. Puglise and John Geppert each caused a pair of turnovers. The Terps' defense limited Princeton to just 23 shots. Geppert and Puglise each  had four groundballs.

Goalie Logan McNaney made 10 saves.  

The Tigers (2-1) received a huge performance by goalie Erik Peters, who made 19 saves. Sam English scored four goals to lead their offensive output. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • Maryland took a 4-1 lead early and never relinquished the advantage in the game. Donville scored twice in the first quarter as the Terps held a 5-3 lead after the first 15 minutes. 
  • Princeton cut their deficit to 5-4 early in the second quarter, but Wisnauskas scored two more goals in the period as the Terps held a 9-6 edge at halftime. 
  • In the third quarter the teams traded pairs of goals with Wisnauskas and Donville scoring for Maryland, which led 11-8 after three. 
  • Maltz and Brennan closed the scoring in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Wisnauksas set up both of thos goals. 
 
Wisnauskas Watch
  • With his four goals, Wisnauskas notched his 31st career hat trick as a Terp and fourth in as many games this season.
  • Wisnauskas's four goals gives him 160 for his career, he stands second all-time in career goals, trailing only Jared Bernhardt (202). 
  • With six points in the game, Wisnauskas moved to second all-time in career points in Maryland history with 262. He passed Matt Rambo's 257 points scored between 2014-17. Bernhardt leads with 290 points.  
  • The Sykesville, MD native has tallied a point in all 61 games of his collegiate career.
  • Wisnauskas now has 102 assists in his career to stand tied with Matt Rambo for seventh at Maryland. Next on the list at No. 6 John Kaestner (105).
  •  It was his 49th mutli-goal game and third in as many games this season.  

Terp Tidbits
  • The Terps have won 13 consecutive games at Maryland Stadium, winning every home game since 2019.
  • Maryland is 68-14 at home under John Tillman
  • Since  Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland is 125-16 (.887) when it scores 10 or more goals. 
  • Maryland is also 88-13 (.871) in the last seven seasons when scoring at least 10 goals. 
  • Maryland is now 37-3 in the month of February under  Tillman. 
 
Series History 
  • The Terps are now 32-12-1 all-time against the Tigers dating back to the first meeting between the programs in 1927.
  • Maryland has now won four games in a row against Princeton dating back to an NCAA Quarterfinals victory in 2006.
  • Prior to Saturday Terps and Tigers last met on March 12, 2016 in New Jersey with the Terps winning handily 17-5. Colin Heacock and Connor Kelly both notched hat tricks that day.
