No. 23 Terps Get Past Northwestern, Take Series With 10-5 Win

COLLEGE PARK, MD — After relinquishing its lead in the top of the seventh inning, Maxwell Costes started the home half with a leadoff walk. Troy Schreffler Jr. ripped a single, the third of his four hits.

Bobby Zmarzlak was looking to get Costes and Schreffler over, but a perfectly-placed bunt and a hustle down the line had the bases loaded with nobody out. Ian Petrutz came up next and hit a ground ball to second — which was bobbled by the second baseman as both Costes and Schreffler came around to score.

And with that, some small ball turned a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 lead for No. 23 Maryland baseball on Sunday. The Terps added five more over the next two innings, solidfying a 10-5 win over Northwestern — and a series win.

Schreffler's 4-for-4 day on which he was a triple shy of the cycle led the offense for Maryland (35-9, 11-4 Big Ten). Nick Dean made his first Sunday start and surrendered just one hit over five scoreless innings. Nick Robinson, Nigel BelgraveDavid Falco Jr., Ryan Van Buren and Sean Heine finished the game on the mound.
