No. 1 Maryland Falls At Loyola, 12-7

BALTIMORE, MD -- No. 1 Maryland could not rally from early deficits against Loyola and ultimately came up short by a score of 12-7.
Daniel Kelly scored four goals to lead the way for the Terps. Jack Brennan and Kyle Long each added a goal and an assist apiece.
Luke Wierman won 18-of-22 at the face-off and scooped up seven ground balls. His fifth face-off win gave him 400 for his career. He is just the ninth Terp in 98 seasons to reach that milestone.
Loyola's Luke Staudt made 19 saves in goal. Evan James had three goals for the Greyhounds (1-0).
Maryland outshot Loyola, 42-26, won the groundballs battle, 38-27 and won 18 of face-offs.
The loss was Maryland's first since falling in the 2021 NCAA Championship game to Virginia after going 18-0 last season.

- Loyola drew first blood, scoring two goals in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. Kelly scored his first goal of the night to cut the deficit in half.
- After Loyola added another goal early in the second frame, Jack Brennan and Kelly each scored to knot it at 3-3.
