COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Twenty-five professional Terrapins begin their season this weekend in the 2023 Premier Lacrosse League Season. The 25 Terps on 25-man rosters are the most by any college program, with 11 just on the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club.
Last season, hardshells Connor Kelly and Jake Higgins won the PLL Championship with the Waterdogs Lacrosse Club.
Two Terps are set to make their professional debuts this season in Brett Makar (Atlas) and John Geppert (Chrome).
Games will be available on ESPN and ESPN+ all season as well as a select number of games available on ABC.
Atlas (1)
Brett Makar (the third overall pick) is the lone Terps on the Atlas' roster. Makar just recently wrapped up a hisoric five-year career at Maryland where he became one of the top close defenders in the sport as well as the heartbeat of the Terps.
Cannons (2)
Bubba Fairman and Jonathan Donville both made their professional debuts with the Cannons last summer and are back for Year Two in the PLL. Donville totaled nine points in six games played last season while Fairman scooped 17 groundballs in nine games at defensive midfield.
Chrome (6)
The Chrome are home to six former Terps. Offensively, 2022 Tewaaraton Award Winner Logan Wisnauskas was named an all-star in his rookie season and veteran midfielder Colin Heacock notched seven points across 10 games. On the defensive side of the ball, Alex Smith is back for his second professional season while long-time Maryland assistant coach Jesse Bernhardt is back for his 11th season and fourth with the Chrome. Nick Grill and 2023 graduate John Geppert are both LSMs on the Chrome roster. Geppert was picked up by the team as undrafted free agent.
redwoods (3)
Defensive midfielder Isaiah Davis-Allen headlines a trio of Terps on the Redwoods roster. The two-time all-star is entering his seventh professional season overall and third with the Redwoods. Anthony DeMaio and Matt Rahill are both back for their second seasons. Rahill began his professional career with the Cannons before moving to the Redwoods.
Waterdogs (2)
With a pair of former Terps in Connor Kelly and Jake Higgins, the Waterdogs are the defending PLL Champs. Kelly, the team's first-ever draft pick in the 2020 Expansion Draft, was an all-star last season and a massive part of the title run as the team's top scoring midfielder. Higgins was a rookie last season who took home two trophies in four months after winning the 2022 NCAA Championship with the Terps.
Whipsnakes (11)
No team houses more Terps than the Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club. Home to a remarkable 11 hardshells, the Whipsnakes have become a second home once players leave College Park. This year, the former Terps on the roster are Matt Rambo, Mike Chanenchuk, Keegan Khan, Jake Bernhardt, Roman Puglise, Matthew Dunn, Tim Muller, Bryce Young, Michael Ehrhardt, Kyle Bernlohr and Brian Phipps.
